Perry and Caroline in france

Bienvenue chez Perry et Caroline.

Spring 2011.

Hello everyone, the market season has started again for us. We'll be at art fairs, brocantes, artisan markets and our regular stand at Mirande every Monday.

For updates on where to come and see us check the MEET PERRY on his site www.perrytaylor.eu

One note of concern; An artist who lives just a few kilometers from us is redrawing some of Perry's ideas and selling them on the markets. We're trying to stop him from plagiarising Perry's work and stick to what he was doing before, but the law on intellectual property is not easy to implement, so we're working on it.
Many of our customers have been confused by seeing what they think is Perry's work. The person in question is operating under the name 'Miss Pompon' and signs the pieces with an FT. So unless you see the 'Perry' signature, they are not his.

Perry in La Dépêche!

At the end of July, Perry was the subject of an article in La Dépêche, the regional newspaper.
Perry's funny, but sympathetic style is very much appreciated by the French and foreign visitors alike. The market stand is often full of laughing people and many buy drawings because they recognise themselves or their family members in the assorted scenes of French country life.
Here's the article on La Dépêche website. The English translation is below.

Perry Taylor, an Englishman who observes the Gascons

perry taylor at the Mirande market

Perry Taylor - a Taylor that is NOT rich - (When teaching English in French schools, they used to start with a few simple phrases. One of them was "My tailor is rich".) An englishman born in Oxford in 1958 and now settled in Puydarrieux. He was an art director for advertising agencies in London and Amsterdam for some twenty years. He now works from home, via internet, as a graphic designer, illustrator and cartoonist. One can meet him at the regional markets and every Monday at the market here, in Mirande, in the hall.

He presents his drawings of striking realism. "I started by drawing the houses, village squares, etc. but they missed the human element, so I started to add several characters." There are now scenes of life: The festivals, life in the fields, hunting, gavage (force-feeding ducks for foie gras), the markets and other themes. On top of his grand drawing talent, he adds an extraordinary sense of observation. "There's a camera in his head" Said his wife, Caroline, a Dutchwoman from Amsterdam who accompanies him on the market stands. These are drawings to savour. One needs to take time to look and discover all the details. The Gascons are faithfully captured; their expressions, habits, their postures, clothes, situations, how they amuse themselves and work.

two men having a pee while grape picking

He shows me a large scene of a vendange (a group of people picking grapes) and points to a small corner of the drawing. Two male grape pickers are seen standing, satisfying their call of nature, side by side, having a chat like it's the most natural thing in the world. So true. The slippers on the old peasant, cane in hand, sitting in front of his house. So true. To his acute sense of observation and his talent as a draughtsman, one must add his humour. There is always a touch of this, discreet but appropriate. That of an Englishman. www.perrytaylor.eu

Perry illustrated a book of collected columns.
It's written by Diederick, Caroline's brother, and are all based upon his life as a vet in Holland.
The book is in Dutch and can be ordered via Amazon.co.uk

To read more about the book, Diederick and how else to order, go to Diederick's website www.diederickkarthaus.nl

Perry's professional site is to be found at La Baguette Magique.

Have a wander round the site. One big addition to the site is our Help & Tips section. So many people ask us stuff about moving, buying, renovating, artisans and translating, that we decided to create a host of facts and links for those of you fancying a life in France. To back it up, we've created a bookshop with loads of invaluable and interesting books on renovating, French law, planning permission, living and working in France and learning French. When you buy via the links on our site, we get a little commission, but you don't pay a penny more. It all goes towards the time we spend keeping the site updated.

So that's it for now. Grab a glass, better still, grab a bottle, sit back and plunge into the tales of life down in the Hautes-Pyrénées.
